Over the summer, the men’s soccer program welcomed its first full-time coach in Scott Miller. Miller comes from eight years of coaching experience at Alfred University. The team is also without ten graduating seniors. In fact, during preseason, with only nine players reporting, there were even questions as to whether or not Sarah Lawrence would be able to field a full squad.

Through the galvanizing efforts of co-captains Juan Sucre (’16) and Ishaan Pujari (’15), the team now boasts a squad of 16 and growing. Furthermore, the freshman class seems to be a talented bunch. In what would otherwise be considered a transitional year, the strength of this incoming group may be enough to allow them to compete now.

In their first game this past Sunday against the Culinary Institute of America, all three goals were both assisted and scored by members of the class of 2018. Unfortunately, a couple bad sequences left the Gryphons with a 5-3 loss to start their non-conference schedule.

Despite a tough start against a longtime rival, Miller is still confident about the prospects for the upcoming season: “The team has already shown me such strong character…I am proud to say that we have all levels of experience in the game.”

The Gryphons square off in an away match versus York this coming Friday. Kick-off is at 7:00 PM.
