On Tuesday Oct. 29 the Barbara Walters Campus Center welcomed a panel of experts in journalism, social media and politics to discuss the prevalence of misinformation in America. The panel included Sarah Lawrence writing professor Marek Fuchs acting as the moderator, author and journalist Jeffery Rothfeder, Sarah Lawrence politics professor David Peritz and, Zeve Sanderson the founding director of NYU’s Center for Social Media and Politics.
On Oct. 22nd, students gathered to listen to three of Sarah Lawrence’s professors: Bernice Rosenzweig, Jamee Moudud and David Peritz speak about three topics concerning the 2024 election and Project 2025. Bernice Rosenzweig, professor of environmental science, spoke first and gave a moving presentation on climate change.
Nuzzled in the North Lawn, a cozy gazebo-like structure stands. This is the student-run coffee shop, the Teahaus, which has reopened for the year. From $3 lattes to $2 teas, the Teahaus offers an affordable beverage option on campus.
Holding up cardboard signs reading “Palestine will live forever” and “Divest from death,” over 50 members of the community ranging from first semester freshmen to second semester seniors gathered on the South Lawn under the warm October sun. Moments later, organizers from the Sarah Lawrence Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) group spoke to the student body from the steps of Westlands. Clad in keffiyehs and Palestinian flags, students eagerly listened to organizers as they shouted chants and calls to action.
