Mexican Independence Day Parade: A Vibrant Celebration
Loud music is coming from speakers and the smell of tacos fills the streets of New York City on a sunny afternoon. From every corner, there are families laughing and a colorful array of mariachis playing their songs. On Sept. 21, the parade celebrating Mexican Independence Day took place on Madison Avenue from 39th Street to 27th Street. Starting at 12 p.m., floats were lined up as people arrived to enjoy the parade.
AVI’s Fresh Take: Students React to Dining Changes
AVI Fresh, Sarah Lawrence’s dining service provider, has faced persistent criticism from students over the years. The college currently ranks 7th worst in the nation for dining quality, according to the 2025 edition of The Princeton Review. In response to mounting student dissatisfaction, AVI has implemented changes this school year, including new menu specials and surveys conducted to improve the dining experience.
Misinformation, Journalism & Politics: A Brief Recap
On Tuesday Oct. 29 the Barbara Walters Campus Center welcomed a panel of experts in journalism, social media and politics to discuss the prevalence of misinformation in America. The panel included Sarah Lawrence writing professor Marek Fuchs acting as the moderator, author and journalist Jeffery Rothfeder, Sarah Lawrence politics professor David Peritz and, Zeve Sanderson the founding director of NYU’s Center for Social Media and Politics.

On Oct. 22nd, students gathered to listen to three of Sarah Lawrence’s professors: Bernice Rosenzweig, Jamee Moudud and David Peritz speak about three topics concerning the 2024 election and Project 2025. Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is a time filled with reflection, renewal, and community. This year, Rosh Hashanah took place from Oct. 2 to Oct. 4. The holiday commemorates the anniversary of the creation of the world and serves as a period of personal self-reflection. The Student Senate at SLC held its annual elections for the 2024-2025 school year on Sept. 19 and 20; with students from all years, backgrounds and ambitions elected to hold offices and represent the study body. Newly Renovated HUB Opens Its Doors
On Sept. 1, the HUB, formerly known as the PUB, had its grand opening here at Sarah Lawrence College. Formally known as the Ruth Leff Siegel Center, the HUB stands for “Humanity Understanding Belonging,” and newly renovated student spaces hope to exemplify exactly that.
A Legacy Restored: Sarah Lawrence College Blood Drives
On Oct.9, Sarah Lawrence College is slated to host its second blood drive since reinstating the event after a 20-year hiatus. In partnership with The American Red Cross Foundation and the Pre Health Student Alliance of SLC, the blood drive will take place at the Barbara Walters Campus Center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. From students to staff to faculty, everyone is encouraged to sign up and participate in this initiative.
