Pet of the Week: Enzo!
Zoe Stanton-Savitz
Enzo is a short-haired American Guinea Pig whose favorite activities include eating spinach and peppers and cuddling.
Enzo was rescued by owner Bridget Anne Cashman about a year ago from the Lexington Humane Society in Kentucky. Because he is a rescue, Cashman does not know Enzo’s exact age, but they approximate two years old. Cashman named Enzo after the character of the same name from the series Vampire Diaries.
“He’s my son,” Cashman says. “He gets me and he’s easy to talk to.”
According to Cashman, he likes to talk and emote through wheaking, a high pitch playful squeak, as well as contented purring.
“He’s very sassy,” Cashman says. “If Bates is out of what he wants to eat and I have to give him something else, he’ll go on food strikes and get mad at me.”
Despite his audacious attitude, Enzo is loving and likes to show affection with little nibbles and licks of love.
Enzo is extremely emotive, a common trait of guinea pigs. Cashman says that guinea pig “emotions and behavioral instincts are very closely related to that of children.”
Like people, Enzo responds positively to music and the sounds of television, answering to the noises by wheaking.
“He likes Hozier because that’s what I played to calm him down on the way home from the humane society,” Cashman says.
This adorable and ardent pet plans to dress as candy corn for Halloween.
