A Scandalous Costume Contest

Audience members in colorful, bloodied and scandalous costumes filled Resinger Lecture Hall. A buzzed excitement was in the air as nine audience members stood from their seats and made their way to the stage.
The Scandal Revue, Sarah Lawrence’s Burlesque Club, held their Halloween Show last Friday evening, Oct. 24. It was advertised that they would hold a costume contest in which the audience member with the best ensemble would win a prize. The contest began during intermission, after the first half of the Burlesque performers put on their acts. There were nine contestants, and the prize was a plastic trophy filled with candy with the word Slut written in bedazzled gems, done by Scandal Revue co-chair Emma Chally ‘26. The winner of the contest would be named The Ultimate Slut.
Music began to play as each individual strutted across the stage and showed off their costumes. Audience members saw some great costumes, including two upperclassmen with “6 7” written in green on their white shirts, two Ghostface masks, and one perturbed chef from the hit Hulu drama series The Bear, to name just a few. Burlesque performers Butch Chastity and Immanuel Cunt acted as judges in this contest, and after a prolonged drum roll and a whispered conversation they named the finalists of the competition.
The finalists were asked to tell the audience and judges their names and the inspiration for their costumes. The first costume that was named was the newly-elected freshman class president who was addressed as “The Bear,” to which the contestant responded: “I’m not dressed up, my name is Carmy,” in a thick Chicagoan accent. The second was dressed up as Jennifer Check from hit horror movie, Jennifer’s Body, and when asked for the inspiration for their costume they responded “I wanted to be bloody.” The third finalist that was named was “The Second Ghost Face,” whose inspiration was “showing off my boobs,” to which the audience responded with a cheer of immense joy. The fourth and last finalist was “The Person from Sleepaway Camp,” who stated that they were a “dead slut” with a smile on their fake-bloodied face. Audience members and finalists waited in anticipation as they watched the second act of the Burlesque show, wondering who Butch Chastity and Immanuel Cunt would name The Ultimate Slut.
After the final act by Boobie Trap and Gloria Hole, finalists were asked to return to the stage. A drum roll ensued as excitement grew in the air and the judges named the winner: “Sleepaway Camp!” The audience began to chant “Slut” as the winner collected his bedazzled prize trophy, declaring him The Ultimate Slut. Co-Chair Emma declared, “I hope you display that proudly in your home,” as she handed off the trophy.
Last Friday night was a great time for the Burlesque club and audience members alike. It was filled with incredible performances, delicious candy, and overall, a scandalously slutty time!
